"text": "On October 10th, Doomtree Records will release Dessa’s new single on all streaming platforms. “Camelot” is the Side B of her new two-song 7” record, slated for physical release on November 4th, 2025.\n\n\"Camelot\" is one of the few explicitly political songs in her catalog, and calls attention to the irreconcilability of two facets of the national self-concept: a) America is a miraculous shining city on a hill; and b) the neighbors are dangerous and crazy.\n\nThe song doesn’t scold or preach, which was important to Dessa who says, \"I hate being lectured. I assume most listeners do too. This song doesn’t aim to teach anybody anything—I think most of us know better already. It’s about trying to rally the nerve to act on our best impulses.\""

"text": "In approaching the recording of Dance Called Memory, the band once again collaborated with friend and Strange Disciple producer Nick Millhiser (LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost!). \n\nUltimately, the hope was to weave raw vulnerability and humanity into a synth-heavy album. \n\n\"There is a dichotomy between the Kraftwerk school of thought and the Brian Eno school of thought, each of which I’ve been drawn to at different points. I’ve read about how Kraftwerk wanted to remove all of the humanity from their music, but Eno often spoke about wanting to make synthesized music that felt distinctly human,\" shares frontman Ian Devaney. \n\n\"As much as Kraftwerk is a sonically foundational influence, with this record I leaned much more towards the Eno school of thought. That this thing should be as unvarnished and warm as possible. In this era quickly being defined by the rise of AI supplanting human creators I’m focusing more on the human condition, and I need the underlying music to support that.\"\n\nDespite the heavy themes at its core, Devaney insists, \"Instead of hopelessness, I want to leave the listener with a feeling of us really seeing one another, that our individual struggles can actually unite us in empathy.\" https://tinyurl.com/4yx9kaw3"

It was the first time they collaborated with Hague, who joined them again to produce New Order's 1993 album Republic.\n\nBernard Sumner recalls, \" It was a time when I set out to write a hit single. I think we got a rather large tax bill, and we sat down with Stephen Hague to write a Top 40 hit.\"\n\n\"I had an idea for the bassline, Gillian (Gilbert, keyboards) had some string ideas, Stephen got some drums down. When we got the track going, I was sent off to the flat we had in London with a bottle of Pernod and told not to show my face again until I'd written the lyrics.\"\n\nAccording to Sumner, the lyrics were changed at the last minute to sanitize the lines \"When I was a very small boy, very small boys talked to me, now that we've grown up together, they're all taking drugs with me\" to \"they're afraid of what they see,\" at the suggestion of producer Steven Hague, who felt the song had more hit potential without the drug reference.\n\nSumner would sometimes sing this original lyric during live performances.\n\nMemorably for movie fans, this song is playing in the club where Patrick Bateman, the main character of the 2000 movie American Psycho, played by Christian Bale, is partying with his friends at the beginning of the movie. https://tinyurl.com/36ez76wk"

"text": "The upcoming third studio album by singer, songwriter, and violinist Brittney Parks, aka Sudan Archives.\n\nThe album follows her critically acclaimed 2022 release Natural Brown Prom Queen and is said to blend club sounds from Detroit and Chicago with diverse dance styles. It features close collaborators and explores themes of technology, self-exploration and emotion.\n\nThe BPM was inspired by her parents' roots in Michigan and Illinois, with recording sessions partially taking place in both Detroit and Chicago, incorporating club sounds from both cities.\n\nThe album features mainly contributions from her close circle, including her sister, cousin and best friend. It also explores various styles of dance music, such as Jersey club and experimental beatwork. \n\nParks notes that her beats often reflect where her parents come from, but with a more experimental twist on this record. She also expressed her intention to create a definitive dance album with The BPM. https://tinyurl.com/mvxdc6sa"
