It's a reference to Pink Floyd's 1977 Animals In The Flesh tour, which inspired the concept of The Wall. The band were playing huge stadiums to rowdy fans, and bassist Roger Waters felt a severe disconnect. At the last show, which took place at Olympic Stadium in Montreal, he spit at a fan who got too close. This led to a great deal of soul searching, and over the next year or so he wrote most of the songs that would form the album."

"text": "#179--Best Opening Tracks (Bet you were waiting for this one!)\n--\nIn his journal, Kurt Cobain said about this track: \"Initially, this song was about coming of age during a time where you’re old enough to support yourself without the aid of your parents, a theme for the twenty-somethings....I decided to let my father know that I don’t hate him. I simply don’t have anything to say and I don’t need a father-son relationship with a person whom I don’t want to spend a boring Christmas with. In other words, I love you. I don’t hate you. I don’t want to talk to you.\""

You can express your solidarity with these two and show your support for KEXP by donating now: https://www.kexp.org/donate/\n--\n#180----This is the opening song of Oasis's debut album, \"Definitely Maybe.\"\nIn 2008, Noel Gallagher said that this is his favorite Oasis track. He explained: \"The words and the sentiment to that song, that's what it's all about. I remember bringing it down to the lads in the rehearsal studio and rehearsing it until the first time we played it live. There was a hush after it, and it wasn't the hush of people going (bewildered) 'What was that all about?' It was (silenced awe). No one had ever said it in a song before. Tonight, I'm a rock 'n' roll star. There's six people watching you, right? You're anything but a rock 'n' roll star. But in your brain you are a rock 'n' roll star. When I hear that song by chance, on the radio or whatever, I just think, D'you know what, man? It's still got it for me. It's wide-eyed and wonderful.\""

"text": "#183 - counting down the Best Opening Songs, as voted by YOU!\n\n“Taxman” was written by George Harrison, who had been very vocal throughout his life about his inspiration for the song “I had discovered I was paying a huge amount of money to the taxman,” he once explained in an interview. “You are so happy that you’ve finally started earning money – and then you find out about tax. In those days we paid nineteen shillings and sixpence out of every pound, and with supertax and surtax and tax-tax it was ridiculous – a heavy penalty to pay for making money…It was, and still is, typical. Why should this be so? Are we being punished for something we have forgotten to do?...That was the big turn-off for Britain. Anybody who ever made any money moved to America or somewhere else.”\n\nhttp://www.beatlesebooks.com/taxman"
