"text": "Songwriter, producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Sly Stone passed away in June at the age of 82. \n\nBest known as the leader of his group Sly and the Family Stone, Stone was born Sylvester Stewart in Denton, TX, and he was raised in Vallejo, CA. In the 1960s, he formed Sly and the Stoners, which eventually became Sly and the Family Stone.\n\nStone formed the band with three of his younger siblings – Freddie, Rose and Vet. They were joined by musicians Larry Graham, Jerry Martini, Cynthia Robinson and Greg Errico."
