"text": "Westchester Lady proved to be Bob James’ second most popular track and a success in a long and distinguished musical career. Preceding his Angela tune, which was used as the theme song for 1978-83 TV comedy series Taxi, it still sounds fresh today. \n--\nThis enduring jazz funk masterpiece from 1976, \"Westchester Lady\" comes from Bob James’ 3rd album simply titled, \"Three.\" It has been sampled more than 40 times. -- Bob James said, “The tune, the hook, and main melody of this one was just a jumping point for improvisation. At this point I was really into trying new things and improvising almost wildly at points. I mean, of course improvising has always been an important part of my compositions, but I felt like I now truly had the freedom to do whatever I wanted. I was always looking for schematic material to get a song started, and this song did take a while. But I was real happy with the results when we finished this one because it took longer than some other songs we had done by then. For me, “Westchester Lady” is a real signature piece. I love this song.”"

He and the band's official drummer, Dave Early, came up with the distinctive pre-chorus percussion in the studio by setting up glasses and bottles, then tapping them with various implements and blowing over the bottles. The sound of rain was added at the beginning and end of the song from a sound effects disc.\n--\nWant to see a live performance?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2u2eqerRks"

"text": "The band's 1975 album 'Malik' prominently featured the Univox Super-Fuzz and liberal usage of the talk box. This album was equally influential in decades to come, with a sample of the song \"Darkest Light\" being featured prominently in Public Enemy's \"Show 'Em Whatcha Got\". The original saxophone solo on \"Darkest Light\" was played by Leroy Gomez, who later became popular as the lead singer of the disco group Santa Esmeralda. After Public Enemy's usage of the song was highly praised, samples of \"Darkest Light\" appeared in several more notable rap and R&B songs, including \"Back to the Hotel\" by N2Deep, the 1992 single \"Rump Shaker\" by Wreckx-n-Effect, and the 2006 single \"Show Me What You Got\" by Jay-Z."

"text": "Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer. -- Tems co-wrote this song with producers GuiltyBeatz and AoD. -- What makes “Big Daddy” so potent is its incorporation of 3-step, a style of South African house music that bridges amapiano and AfroTech (its defining feature is three quarter-note kicks). While other fusions of 3-step and Afrobeats have simply slapped on the drum pattern or stripped the genre of its booming presence, “Big Daddy” makes the kicks feel crucial at the higher BPM, like Tems is standing with her arms crossed, tapping her foot in annoyance. : https://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/tems-big-daddy/"
