It's unusual for Depeche Mode because the lyrics are so blatant and leave little to the imagination. \n--\nThe percussion on this song incorporates various culinary implements. Lead singer Dave Gahan explained: \"We used to go into studios, and the first thing we'd do, we'd ask where the kitchen was - literally for pots and pans and things that we could throw down the stairs, and record the rhythms they would make crashing around, and then make it into loops.\"\nhttps://tinyurl.com/4b5fqksq"

"text": "Antonio Carlos & Jocafi, the legendary duo from Bahia whose music has embodied the soul of Brasil for over five decades, return with a bold new collaboration: Jazz Is Dead 026. Introduced to Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad by Beto Barreto of Baiana System, the meeting was instant magic. “The first time we met, it was like family,” they recall. That kinship led Younge and Muhammad to invite the duo to Los Angeles, where they carried a handful of ideas and created new songs on the spot—an intuitive, improvisatory process that defines the Jazz Is Dead ethos.\n\na. Musicians:\ni. Adrian Younge: Fender Rhodes piano, Electric guitars, Baritone,\nSopranino and Alto saxophones, Flutes\nii. Ali Shaheed Muhammad: Electric bass guitar\niii. Jocafi: Nylon guitar\niv. Leo Costa: Drums\nv. Krishna Booker: Percussion\nb. Lyrics: Written and performed by Antonio Carlos e Jocafi\nc. Background vocals: Letícia dos Santos Pedroza, Nayana Araujo Duarte, Leonardo Bruno Baptista and Murilo Oliveira dos Santos"

Josh Tillman has been playing this track live at shows since 2024. \"In this incarnation, 'The Old Law' is a gnarly psych-pop track with lots of low end and many illustrious layers of guitar. It's hard not to think about John Lennon's songs on the post-touring Beatles albums, from the sardonic posture to the melodic sensibility. 'A man's life, God's trash,' Tillman sings on the chorus.
