It is explicitly framed by the band as a support song about two parallel kinds of “coming out”: disclosing sexual abuse and coming out as LGBTQ+, and about surviving and moving forward after both.\n\nThe song was partly inspired by Ann Cvetkovich’s essay “Sexual Trauma / Queer Memory,” which links incest, lesbian identity, and therapeutic culture, and that intersectional lens is why the lyrics name these experiences side by side. Le Tigre also created a companion “Keep On Livin’” web page with practical advice for coming out and for abuse survivors, plus a community‑made video featuring queer youth, turning the track into a small mutual‑aid resource rather than just an anthem."
