"text": "The newest from Portland-based duo foamboy! New foamboy album \"Stupid Hot\" comes out in Spring 2026.\n\nFrom the band: \"This song about an anticlimactic love affair was revived from the archives. I originally produced it as a slow/sleepy beat with just the chorus lyrics \"all I got from you was a book and a cold/I'm tired of maybes to soften the blow.\" Five years later, Wil turned it into a big glittery disco song, which was great, but it meant I had to go back and write some verses. As someone who normally starts and finishes the lyrics of a song within a few days, it was an interesting challenge to complete something I had started so long ago.\"\n\nhttps://foamboy.bandcamp.com/track/book-and-a-cold\nhttps://www.foamboyband.com/"

"text": "Anne Tong of Chinese American Bear says of this new single: \"This song is one of the more romantic love songs we've written. It's inspired by our own love story. Bryce [Barsten] and I first met in high school, we dated for ten years before getting married in 2018. We've now officially been together for over half of our lives. The style of the song is an ode to my lifelong obsession with pop music. I kept asking Bryce to write a song that's more directly pop, and he finally did! It was really fun to work on, and a challenge for him to produce/mix something in this vein.\" https://chineseamericanbear.bandcamp.com/track/forever-lover \n--\nDon't miss the happy video for this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gg-daxxRAFQ"

"text": "On March 1st, 1984, Prince released his first single with the Revolution credited as his backing band and provided a generation with an instant retort to any traumatizing moment in their lives: \"So this is what it sounds like when doves cry…\"\n\nWritten and produced by Prince himself, “When Doves Cry” was effectively penned at the behest of Albert Magnoli, director of Purple Rain, who was looking for a song to serve as the soundtrack for a particular scene. (Lyrically, however, Prince biographer Per Nilsen has said that the song was inspired by Susan Moonsie, a member of Vanity 6, and Prince’s relationship with her.)\n\nWhatever its origins, one thing’s for certain: it was the last tune to be written and composed for the Purple Rain soundtrack. For a song that was ostensibly handed over to Magnoli the very next day after he initially asked Prince to write something, “When Doves Cry” made more waves than a tsunami: in addition to hitting #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, it also topped the magazine’s R&B Singles and Dance/Disco Singles charts. https://tinyurl.com/y9tcpf22"

"text": "New music from Seattle's Mt Fog\n___\nIn his column Throwaway Style, Martin Douglas writes, \"Once the music-making pseudonym of classically trained virtuoso Carolyn B., Mt. Fog has become a full-fledged band, rounded out by drummer Andy Sells and bassist Casey Rosebridge. A closeness exists between the three which belies the tried-and-true method of an accomplished solo artist enlisting hired guns; in conversation, Rosebridge half-jokes that the band has been mistaken for a throuple.\n\n\"On a purely musical level, Mt. Fog exists as somewhat of an anomaly in Seattle’s contemporary music scene. (That’s not to say they are the only band that fits the bill; there are a handful of notable exceptions to this rule.) In a vast and endless sea of rock bands—ranging in quality from adequate-but-dull to legitimately great—Mt. Fog lies in the space between classical and the modernist avant-garde; mostly devoid of six-string guitars and standard song structure; containing old-world mysticism and something far beyond the present day in the opposite direction.\" https://tinyurl.com/bdfre76p"

I was being programmed. ‘You don’t have time to cook dinner tonight because you are too busy crushing it as a doer: You are creating next level content and don’t have time to hang out w/ friends or family this weekend so download this app and have ready-made food delivered to you for 29.99. This ideology of constant productivity forces you to treat your own body, mind, time, and friends as products to mine. As a result, the world becomes a smaller, duller place.” -- https://tinyurl.com/2p93du53"

"text": "Request for Stephen!\n\nOriginally announced on January 17, 2007, at a show in Nashville, Tennessee, this album was the band's first with guitarist Nels Cline and multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone. Before its release, the band streamed the entire album on its official website and offered a free download of \"What Light.\"\n\nThe band sought to be more direct with this record than the previous two, resulting in a more mellow album. Tweedy attributes the lyrical directness to his listening to material by The Byrds and Fairport Convention while recording the album. He disliked the reliance on studio effects on previous albums, saying \"I got nervous about the technology on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. If you need a certain amp or pedal to make a song what it is, it isn't a song.\"\n\nMany of the album's songs were recorded in a single day, with the band reaching a consensus on how each song should sound. https://tinyurl.com/y3w4b3th"
