According to Simon Rogers, who produced the track, they brought in a musician to replicate it on viola, but it didn't sound right. \n\nPeter Murphy was the vocalist for Bauhaus. "text": "#652 on KEXP Listener's Favorite Albums of All-time Countdown\n\nWelcome to KEXP's Fall Fundraising Drive!!!\n\nOriginally the single was released with the title reversed, as \"Tear the Roof off the Sucker (Give Up the Funk).\" It was written by Parliament members Jerome Brailey, George Clinton, and Bootsy Collins.\n\nIt is certainly one of the most famous songs from, if not the definitive example of, the P-Funk genre. In fact, we get the term \"p-funk\" from the collective Parliament-Funkadelic, managed by George Clinton. A few dozen other groups have since followed suit within this genre they invented.\n\n\"Give Up The Funk\" uses a jazz construction, beginning with three themes introduced and explored separately which are then woven together. Ray Davis raps \"tear the roof off the sucker\" at the beginning. Throughout the song, interaction is heard between bass, drums, vocals, and synthesizers. An ensemble sound is achieved with only a few parts. https://tinyurl.com/8p8wc2sr"

Tager, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison, said he was convinced the media was beaming signals into his head, and he was on a mission to determine their frequencies.\n\nWhen Michael Stipe wrote the lyrics, Tager had not yet been identified as Rather's assailant. Stipe wrote the song after becoming intrigued by the case and the media reaction to it, calling it \"the premier unsolved American surrealist act of the 20th century.\"\n\nTager got out of jail in 2010. https://tinyurl.com/4kxjju7k"
