"text": "Good morning, John. Would you please play Bridge Over Troubled Water during today’s show for my friend and soul brother Mark (a committed Amplifier)? Mark had a health scare last week and is now recovering at home. We have been best pals since first grade (in 1966 - yikes!). Thank you, John.\n--Mike in Bellingham\n--\nThis song started as a modest gospel hymn but became more dramatic as Paul Simon put it together. Simon said, \"I have no idea where it came from. It came all of the sudden. It was one of the most shocking moments in my songwriting career. I remember thinking, 'This is considerably better than I usually write.\"\n--\nIn 1971, this won five Grammy Awards: Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Contemporary Song, Best Engineered Record, and Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists. The album also won Album of the Year."

"text": "Hi John & Morgan,\nCould you play, Ladies and gentlemen, we are floating in space, by Spiritualized? I recently got married to an amazing partner (her name is Amy) and we couldn't get to this gem. It also feels great to donate to the station (especially now with my new job). Thank you! Best, Juan\n--\nIn 1995, Jason Pierce – frontman and creative engine of Spiritualized – broke up with his long-time partner (and Spiritualized keyboardist) Kate Radley: a bitter enough situation even before learning that she had married The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft in secret during the same year. Despite Pierce’s claims that many songs from Ladies and Gentlemen were fully written before the fact, the effect that these revelations had on his performance on-record is palpable. The completed album is so unreservedly (and unapologetically) flooded with a melodramatic sense of loss (in words and in delivery) that it’s impossible to ignore its creative context.\n--\n\nThat voice at the beginning of this song is attributed to keyboardist Kate Radley."

"text": "Boy George once explained about the song: \"The song is about the terrible fear of alienation that people have, the fear of standing up for one thing.\n\n\"It's about trying to suck up to everybody. Basically, if you aren't true, if you don't act like you feel, then you get Karma-justice, that's nature's way of paying you back.\"\n\nBoy George wrote most of the band's lyrics, and many of his words were inspired by his relationship with the group's drummer, Jon Moss.\n\nTheir difficult romantic/professional relationship was also the inspiration for the line: \"You're my lover, not my rival\" in 'Karma Chameleon'.\n\nThe relationship was hidden to the public, so it became an outlet for Boy George to communicate with him through their songs."

It’s very precise. It took me a long time to work it out, because I wanted to get into the J.S. Bach mode of each note being the perfect counterpoint to where the chords are and where the melody is.
