I thought I was going to have to go alone, but it turned out a friend in my run club was also a fan after she heard them on KEXP. \nI wore my KEXP shirt to the show and got compliments on it. One dude asked if I worked at KEXP and I said, “No, it is way easier. You just donate money and they send you the shirt.”\nThe show was fantastic and I did what you said by buying merch and supporting the band. \nThank you for always reminding us to build community, support art, and get out in nature. As Deep See Diver says, “Happiness is not a given. ” You have to work for this s(tuff), especially now. This is why I am a KEXP amplifier. \nHave a wonderful Friday and,if it fits in the show, please play any Deep Sea Diver.\nThanks again for all you do.\n-Kate in Santa Cruz\n---\nThis fabulous live performance by Deep Sea Diver in the KEXP Gathering Space last May included \"What Do I Know\": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WsfzwykBO4"

"text": "Speaking of Cali....this song was composed by LL Cool J and producer Rick Rubin.\nRubin came up with the basic concept of this song, since he was doing a lot of traveling between New York and California at the time. According to Rubin, LL was always asking him for concepts, since once the rapper had the basic idea, he could write about anything.\n--\nThe horns were real musicians, not samples - something very uncommon in hip-hop at the time. Rick Rubin didn't chart out the horn parts - he told the musicians what to play and let them have at it. They ended up incorporating a sax solo into the song."

"text": "This is a rare pop song that contains a flute solo. Even more surprising, it's an alto flute, which is larger than a regular flute and plays in a lower register. A jazz player named Bud Shank was brought to the session to play it. Shank, who also played saxophone, had a minor hit with his version of The Beatles \"Michelle\" in 1966. He died in 2009 at age 82.\n--\n\"Papa\" Denny Doherty said that when they were recording that song, they wanted a solo, but didn't want the usual guitar solo. \"Papa\" John Phillips walked out into the hall of the Hollywood recording studio they were at and Bud Shank was in that hallway as well. John grabbed him and brought him into the studio. Shank listened to the hole he was supposed to fill and nailed it on the first take."
