In 2007, Mauricio Álvarez spent just over three years traveling through the Colombian countryside along the Magdalena River to the Caribbean Sea, absorbing the myriad sounds and musical styles he encountered on his journeys. He settled in Barranquilla to become the artist now known as Cero39, an homage to the classic song of the same name by another vallenato entertainer: Alejo Durán. With 3 albums, 8 EPs, and over 90 published songs, Cero39 might very well have invented tropical futurism (Remezcla, 2016): his rhythms are heavy, hard, and progressive, sharpened for the dance floor. Elegant and bass-heavy, yet still Caribbean, Latin, with hidden references to dembow and cumbia. The tropical aspect is more of a feeling or state of mind. \n______________ \nEn 2007, Mauricio Álvarez pasó poco más de tres años viajando por el campo colombiano a lo largo del río Magdalena hasta el Mar Caribe, absorbiendo los numerosos sonidos y estilos musicales que encontró en sus viajes. Se estableció en Barranquilla para convertirse en el artista ahora conocido como Cero39, un homenaje a la clásica canción del mismo nombre de otro animador vallenato: Alejo Durán. Con 3 álbumes, 8 EP y más de 90 canciones publicadas, Cero39 bien podría haber inventado el futurismo tropical (Remezcla, 2016): sus ritmos son pesados, intensos y progresivos, afilados para la pista de baile.
