"text": "In their early years, EndlessWhite toyed with synthy post-punk and indie-rock sounds while (live at least) occasionally leaning into noisy shoegaze. Now a decade into their career, the Xi’an four-piece have settled into a cohesive dream-pop aesthetic punctured by periodic power-pop moments. Entitled When Time Grows Loud in English, their new record plays with nature and seasonal metaphors as it unspools a tale of love and expectation, hurt and disappointment, and ultimately perseverance, while highlighting the futility of resisting time’s incessant march. It might just be the band’s best work yet.\n\nhttps://endlesswhite.bandcamp.com/album/--2"

The latest installment comes from mui zyu, who delivered a haunting take on \"Astral Plane\" from Shamir's 2017 F/D debut Revelations. The production is rich with textural layers of Guzheng, guitar, piano, and vocal harmonies, as well as snippets of childhood home movies used as samples. She finally succumbed due to complications from experimental brain surgery she had volunteered for. She was like that, she had a strong belief in the \"Good of the Many.\" The researchers at UCLA were working on an implanted device that would function to alleviate and possibly cure Parkinson's symptoms. UCLA was Mom's alma matter and she gave back in a big way! On that final night, she told the assisted living care person that her daughter, Evie, would be coming over to help her pack for going off to college. UCLA? I believe that time is an illusion and that in some hard to believe way, she was speaking the truth. She knew her life was ending and she knew that I was going to help with her. I could just imagine myself coming to her on that night and reassuring her that I would accompany her on her journey to the other side and that it is a good place to be. \nMy mother loved to sing and I remember her singing We'll Meet Again. This was a song a recorded in 1939 song by English singer Vera Lynn."

"text": "For Kristen in CA\n\nThanks for dedicating a day to grief. I lost my dad a year ago on Oct 29 to a surprise stage 4 kidney cancer diagnosis. He was my biggest champion and overcame so much to be a great dad. Grief can be so cruel and at the same time one of the purest expressions of love. He was one of the biggest supporters of public radio, if you could play something by David Byrne, I would be so grateful. Thanks for bringing the grieving community together through music."

"text": "For Taylor\n\nHi KEXP, I lost my mom to suicide on September 30th of this year. I couldn’t listen to any music at all for at least a week after she died. The first song I was able to listen to was Crosses by Jose Gonzales, which will forever be the song I associate with my mother and the loneliness that comes with losing someone to suicide. For those listening who have also lost loved ones to suicide, you are not alone.\nThank you for your amazing programming."

"text": "For Andrew in Pacifica\n\nSix years ago the love of my life was undergoing chemotherapy for incurable stomach cancer. She passed in late February of 2020. We met in graduate school: me from northern Minnesota, she from Shanxi Province in China. Despite the geographic and cultural differences, we quickly discovered that we had common spirits, and were sympathetically aligned on all the big questions. We were together thirty years and raised a daughter and a son, both young adults now: accomplished and admirable humans of whom we are proud. \n\nThe grief has transformed over the passing years, with the feelings now best described as gratitude, for the most part (though the feelings of loss are always there, too). Would you please play Cassandra Wilson's \"Closer to You\" and send it out to the love of my life, Jinhong, who passed in February 2020. Jinhong was an accomplished scientist, dedicated to bringing anti-cancer therapies from the research bench to the clinic. She was a talented musician, a loving mother, daughter, sister. Her smile and her positive energy touched all who knew her. I miss her every day; so thankful to have had her in my life."

"text": "For Misty\n\nHi KEXP! If you are still taking requests, I would love it if you played Supertramp’s Goodbye Stranger.\nI lost my dad 5 years ago, very unexpectedly, during the early months of the pandemic, where we were all struggling with isolation & confusion. My dad had just returned from a trip to South America which was cut short, and his travels home were very stressful which I think contributed to his heart failing.\nHe was always looking for his next adventure. A fearless solo traveller, so fearless that it caused his loved ones anxiety at times, not knowing where in the world he was. This song reminds me of him. Always on the move. Always cheerful. Always on his own agenda. \nThanks ❤️"

Even getting mauled by a grizzly in Yellowstone didn’t slow him down. He kept performing, kept exploring, kept inspiring us. He’s been gone 15 years, but he still feels close.\nAnd Jimmy who died of brain cancer two years ago. He was an art teacher, poker-night regular, and one of our favorite DJs. He had a heart of gold and left behind his amazing son Sam and a lot of us who still miss his presence and his playlists.\nI’d love to hear One of These Things First by Nick Drake, a song from one of Jimmy’s last mixes."
