"text": "For Sophie in Seattle\n\ntoday i am thinking about my grandmother, who was my last-standing grandparent by almost 15 years and the matriarch of the family in so many ways. she died not from covid but during the first month of the pandemic, while I was living across an ocean, separated from many of my coping strategies during a strict lockdown and unable to attend the funeral or be alongside family during the loss. my family cleaned out her house soon after, which had been a central part of our life for decades, and i came back to her Brooklyn College sweatshirt on my childhood bed. \n\nbefore I left to live in the UK in the last year of her life, she pulled out one of her earrings for me to wear, and we each wore one of them a sea apart. when I visited for the holidays a couple months before she passed - a last minute decision I am so glad I made - she gave me the second earring she'd been wearing, baring herself of her belongings near the end of her life. I have a beautiful video from that visit of my mom and my grandma singing Que Sera Sera together. My whole life I loved listening to them sing and am so glad I have that memory recorded. I'd love to hear that song if you're able and will imagine my grandmother singing alongside it. thank you so much for this beautiful day."

I was so blessed to have had a big sister who positively influenced me in so many ways and truly shaped the person that I am. She shared her love of music with me and opened my eyes to so many artists. I will always remember studying her vinyl collection, dancing together to PJ Harvey and blasting music in her VW bus. "text": "From Rocky Votolato of Suzzallo\n\nThis song is about the portal that opens up between two worlds when you lose someone you love deeply. I don’t normally give this much context on what inspired a song, but how the idea for this song was born was very special and I wanted to share some of how it came to be:\nWe had just moved into a new place and Kienan had mentioned a string of star lights they wanted us to get to hang from our deck. Although my wife April never ordered them they somehow arrived a few weeks after Kienan passed away. It was of course really difficult to open the package. It took us months to get the courage to hang them, but when we finally did we noticed that sometimes when we talked about Kienan the lights would start blinking off and on. Our friends and family would try to figure it out or fix them, but we knew it was a sign that Kienan was still with us and that some bonds can’t be broken. So that become the “Star String Radio”. I hope everyone can find some hope and healing through the song the way we did."

"text": "For Sonja\n\nHi Evie, I wasn’t going to write in, but your invite to share compelled me. \nI lost my Mom in 2017 to Lewy Body Dementia. Grieving the loss of someone with LBD or Alzheimer’s is different. You lose them years before you actually lose them, and before you ever see it coming. The take away from losing my Mom is to live in the now. Say the things, ask the questions, share the stories, eat the desserts. \nHer name is Linda. Ask anyone. She was the kindest most caring person you could meet, but she also had a mischievous side. She struggled with alcoholism and depression. But found sobriety and later help for her depression. Due to the dementia, in her final years she was unable to attend her cherished weekly AA meeting. In her last days I was able to contact one of her AA friends, and they gave her her final medallion. 32 years. As proud as she was of her sobriety, she always said the most important day of being sober was today. I got to spend a month with him at the end of his life cooking, listening to music constantly, laughing, and connecting. Often at his side were his 3 daughters Katie, Betsy, and Maggie.
