The group achieved fame in the 1960s with Motown.\n\nAn act founded by friends Annette Beard, Rosalind Ashford and Gloria Williams, the group eventually included Martha Reeves, who moved up in ranks as lead vocalist of the group after Williams' departure in 1962. A few group members were part of Jackson University’s marching band “Sonic Boom Of The South.\" They began performing at Jackson State as “The Family” because of their brotherly bond. After a while they continued as “Wynd Chymes” in order to add more mystique to the group. Wynd Chymes eventually got noticed by RCA Records, which resulted in a record deal for two albums and various singles."
