"text": "For Ernie from Liz\n\nHi Larry or Evie-\nI have been meaning to send in a Music Heals tribute for West's Dad, Ernie, for years now. \nErnie Keller died of COVID, in two short weeks, in July of 2020. \nLosing someone unexpectedly can leave you not only with grief but mountains of work. We are still sorting through finances, bills, taxes, etc. five years after Ernie died.\nToday I was filling out yet another tax form for Ernie's estate and realized, as I was filling it in, that it is Ernie's birthday. Today. On the day of Music Heals/ the Grief Show. \nSo, Ernie, I get the message! \nDJ's: If you could, would you please play either Sam Cooke \"Bring it on Home to Me\" or anything from Roger Miller? \nAnd, if you could, please mention this...Ernie always listened to West's show, Sonic Reducer, from his home in The Dalles, OR. I don't think he liked punk rock much, but he sure did love his son. \nAnd I understand if I am too late. But it was too much of a coincidence not to write in. \nThanks for all you do! We love you guys and all of KEXP SO MUCH in this house!!!"

She had a love for literature, good wine, and genuine connection that was reflected in a life devoted to beauty and kindness in all forms. Rachel's warmth and generosity leaves a memory cherished by all she encountered along her journey. One of her favorite songs was \"Favourite\" by Fontaines D.C. I have been a fan favorite of Thin Lizzy's for awhile now, however this song really just hits different for me. I was going through a little scuffle in my life. Days were mashing together, and I was just feeling very tired. The same joy I once had had suddenly dissipated. I felt that my habits failed, I was very stressed, and feeling deprived of life. It all started when I failed a test, LOL. I just got done surfing, cranked this song on my way home and wow. Everything suddenly felt okay. The serotonin I felt from this song was truly incredible. I felt hearing this song and this experience reassured me how awesome life really is, and to lower the pressure on myself. I belted this song driving down PCH. The lyrics, the guitar, the fun. Thank you KEXP for letting me share, much love."

Being in my dorm not having my best friend with me really hurts sometimes. Whiskey and wine by 311 was one of the first songs we really connected on and it always makes me feel better when i'm missing him. I know he will be listening at this time and I wanted to surprise him. Thank you!"

"text": "Stacey in Settle requested this song:\nI remember listening to the first Mom show from Chicago and being so moved. Every year I looked forward to it, I think to help with my depression and ,of course, the music was amazing . Then the worst happened. My beloved partner Juan was diagnosed with cancer. It was two year of ups, and downs, and two more Mom shows that started to become so much more meaningful. When I went home from the hospital the final time after he passed, and laid in bed in the darkness of grief, not knowing how i would go on, I realized it was during the morning show and I put in a request in honor of Juan, LCD Soundsystem's Someone Great. John played it and I just cried. It was the beginning of my grief and trying to start again. After a year of bereavement group, I moved to Seattle. Music and the mountains have helped me heal and, 6 years later, life seems good, but I will always miss him and will continue to grieve. Thanks for all you do. It makes a difference."

"text": "From Lisa in Sacramento:\nI lost two pivotal members of my college friend group this year. You know the ones... you've been friends for 35 years + and they can never be replaced cause you just don't have that long left yourself. One of those lost was the love of my life, but in the way life can be so cruel, I didn't realize this until he was gone. We'd come together every 5 years or so and try to see if we fit. There was always something a little off, but we knew we'd have more time to try again and again. Until there isn't. All the things I was chasing were so empty compared to our connection. My ancestor altar is up and I've been conflicted about when to take it down and start transitioning to the bright sparkle of Yule. It strikes me that listening to the station today will be my closing ritual. So appropriate as those lost this year were lifelong musicians and all our best memories involved the band, concert trips, and just hanging out arguing about music. Please, \"Hello, it's me\" by Todd Rundgren in memory of Dr. Bill McKenna, the most amazing classical guitar player and my ginger troubadour, too golden for this world."
