"text": "#17 on YOUR countdown of the greatest albums of all time!\n\nJeff Buckley drafted young guitarist Michael Tighe into his band late in the recording of Grace. A guitar part that Tighe penned in his early teens sparked this song. He recalled to Uncut: \"I composed the chord progression for 'So Real' when I was 14 or 15. When I first met Jeff, I played that for him and he was really taken with it.\nA year or two later, at some of the rehearsals for their first tour, he was like, 'Remember that song you played me on your bed a couple of years ago at your parents place?' So I started playing it, and he got behind the drums and came up with that beat and started singing the melody of the chorus.\"\n\nhttps://www.songfacts.com/facts/jeff-buckley/so-real"

"text": "#21 on YOUR countdown of the greatest albums of all time!\n\nNeutral Milk Hotel biographer Kim Cooper believes In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is one of the most heavily distorted albums ever made, but also notes the lack of equipment such as Big Muffs or distortion pedals. Mangum liked having a layer of distortion over the music, but Schneider decided to not use standard effects equipment. Instead, Schneider used heavy compression and placed a Bellari RP-220 tube mic pre-amp close to his guitar. Schneider then ran the sound through a mixing console and maxed out the sound on a cassette tape. This process was done for nearly every instrument used on In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. Schneider claimed that the nonlinearities of microphone distortion gave the album its unique \"warm\" quality."

"text": "#22 on YOUR countdown of the greatest albums of all time!\n\nWhen recording the album, the band decided to try a new approach to recording. Alan Wilder said, \"Usually we begin the making of a record by having extensive pre-production meetings where we decide what the record will actually sound like, then go into a programming studio. This time we decided to keep all pre-production work to a minimum. We were beginning to have a problem with boredom in that we felt we'd reached a certain level of achievement in doing things a certain way.\"\n\nMartin Gore told NME, \"Over the last five years I think we'd perfected a formula; my demos, a month in a programming studio, etc. etc. We decided that our first record of the '90s ought to be different.\""

"text": "#26 on YOUR countdown of the greatest albums of all time!\n\nBrian Wilson, who produced and co-wrote “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” with chief Pet Sounds lyricist Tony Asher, and his cousin, Beach Boys frontman Mike Love, explained the basis of the song:\n\n“In a sense it was what youthful people will talk about. ‘Wouldn't it nice if we could get married?’ -- but they're young, y’know? The whole idea about, wouldn't it be nice if we could do this or that but they're not quite old enough to be able to do it! . . . 1966 was a very big year for The Beach Boys. I realized that the recording industry was becoming free and intelligent. We could go into new things – string quartets, auto-harps, and instruments from other cultures. I decided right then that I was going to try and make the greatest rock n’ roll album ever created. Pet Sounds was (aiming for a) more of an advanced kind of lyric. It wasn't about cars or surf or flashy ideas. It was more of an introspective album with very, very good lyrics. I would sit in my room and work for hours and hours on songs and then play them to Mike, Dennis, Al, Carl, and Bruce to see if they enjoyed them. Pet Sounds was an example of something advanced and experimental.”"

"text": "#30 on YOUR countdown of the greatest albums of all time!\n\n\n\nThis album came out in May, 1972. In 2010, The Atlantic wrote, \"Exile on Main Street may well be, as many claim, the finest album of the Stones's career, but it's also the sound of a slow implosion, of things falling apart, both the end of the Rolling Stones as the world had come to know them and the end of an era of rock and roll music as well.\" Read more about the album and how it \"killed the Rolling Stones\": https://bit.ly/3eUk3go\nThis song was particularly inspirational to Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. He told Rolling Stone magazine: \"When I went to my first rehab, at a place called Hazelden, I brought Exile on Main St. on cassette. I remember waking up the first morning there and realizing I hadn't been sober once for the past 12 or 15 years, from LSD to heroin and cocaine and acid. The only way I could get a buzz at that point was to listen to 'Rip This Joint.'\""
