Grieving the loss of someone with LBD or Alzheimer’s is different. You lose them years before you actually lose them, and before you ever see it coming. The take away from losing my Mom is to live in the now. Say the things, ask the questions, share the stories, eat the desserts. \nHer name is Linda. Ask anyone. She was the kindest most caring person you could meet, but she also had a mischievous side. She struggled with alcoholism and depression. But found sobriety and later help for her depression. Due to the dementia, in her final years she was unable to attend her cherished weekly AA meeting. In her last days I was able to contact one of her AA friends, and they gave her her final medallion. 32 years. As proud as she was of her sobriety, she always said the most important day of being sober was today. She battled a lot of demons in life, but she somehow always managed to find a way to smile. \nAs her ability to communicate dissipated, the more she’d spend her days with headphones on listening to Dirty Dancing and Bee Gees on repeat. She basically raised me and was one of the kindest most generous people I've ever known. She took care of 3 kids, 7 grandkids and even adopted her own sister from foster care. Everyone who knew her loved her. I was living in LA when she passed and never got to say goodbye. Her favorite song was Sittin on the dock of the bay by Otis Redding. We are still sorting through finances, bills, taxes, etc. five years after Ernie died.\nToday I was filling out yet another tax form for Ernie's estate and realized, as I was filling it in, that it is Ernie's birthday. Today. On the day of Music Heals/ the Grief Show. \nSo, Ernie, I get the message! \nDJ's: If you could, would you please play either Sam Cooke \"Bring it on Home to Me\" or anything from Roger Miller? \nAnd, if you could, please mention this...Ernie always listened to West's show, Sonic Reducer, from his home in The Dalles, OR. I don't think he liked punk rock much, but he sure did love his son. \nAnd I understand if I am too late. But it was too much of a coincidence not to write in. \nThanks for all you do!
