Life doesn't feel as loving without her and despite knowing its a testament to how immense her love was, there are days that are still very hard. I'd love to request \"I Shall be Released\" by The Band. As latchkey kids growing up, 'Jack the Bear' was a movie we loved watching. It's a story about a widowed father and his struggle to parent and survive with his 2 kids. 'I shall be released' was in the movie and it was our first introduction to The Band. My sister loooooved the song and bought 'Music from Big Pink to play the song repeatedly. Weirdly, the theme of the movie and her ultimately leaving by brother in law a widow with 2 small children instilled feeling like this was her destiny - leaving such a mark on all of us in her short 38 years alive. Thats likely me reaching for rationalizing losing her, but she certainly felt angelic in life and now in lasting memory."}],"showid":65097},{"playid":3577592,"playtype":{"playtypeid":1,"name":"Media play"},"airdate":"2025-11-13T17:16:09Z","epoch_airdate":1763054169000,"epoch_airdate_v2":"/Date(1763054169000)/","archive_urls":{"32":null,"64":null,"128":null,"256":null},"artist":{"artistid":1802369438,"name":"Kim Virant","islocal":true},"release":{"releaseid":1981640424,"name":"Unreleased song","largeimageuri":null,"smallimageuri":null},"releaseevent":{"releaseeventid":1034087546,"year":2025},"track":{"trackid":837300900,"name":"Questions"},"label":null,"comments":[{"commentid":203436757,"text":"From Kim Virant, with music by Max Rose\n\"I wrote it some months after my father died (Dec '22), Our relationship had always been complicated so it took a bit to untangle just what I was feeling. \nBasically - I should've just asked him about things - but you know the human condition.\nHope you dig it and it's right for the show.\nTake care\""}],"showid":65097},{"playid":3577591,"playtype":{"playtypeid":4,"name":"Air break"},"airdate":"2025-11-13T17:06:31Z","epoch_airdate":1763053591000,"epoch_airdate_v2":"/Date(1763053591000)/","archive_urls":{"32":null,"64":null,"128":null,"256":null},"artist":null,"release":null,"releaseevent":null,"track":null,"label":null,"comments":[],"showid":65097},{"playid":3577590,"playtype":{"playtypeid":1,"name":"Media play"},"airdate":"2025-11-13T17:03:13Z","epoch_airdate":1763053393000,"epoch_airdate_v2":"/Date(1763053393000)/","archive_urls":{"32":null,"64":null,"128":null,"256":null},"artist":{"artistid":1134181126,"name":"The Jayhawks","islocal":false},"release":{"releaseid":1996762263,"name":"Rainy Day Music","largeimageuri":null,"smallimageuri":null},"releaseevent":{"releaseeventid":1874406122,"year":2003},"track":{"trackid":1769716057,"name":"Will I See You in Heaven"},"label":{"labelid":682281053,"name":"American Recordings"},"comments":[{"commentid":1564808984,"text":"Watch The Jayhawks' full performance on KEXP in 2016:\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0ikWmpY1zI"}],"showid":65097},{"playid":3577589,"playtype":{"playtypeid":1,"name":"Media play"},"airdate":"2025-11-13T17:00:54Z","epoch_airdate":1763053254000,"epoch_airdate_v2":"/Date(1763053254000)/","archive_urls":{"32":null,"64":null,"128":null,"256":null},"artist":{"artistid":1362563583,"name":"Simon & Garfunkel","islocal":false},"release":{"releaseid":184874887,"name":"Bookends","largeimageuri":null,"smallimageuri":null},"releaseevent":{"releaseeventid":765922162,"year":1968},"track":{"trackid":1756215561,"name":"Old Friends"},"label":{"labelid":157175815,"name":"Columbia"},"comments":[{"commentid":1943832242,"text":"\"A time of innocence/ A time of confidences/ Long ago . . . it must be . . ./ I have a photograph/ Preserve your memories/ They’re all that’s left you\"\nhttps://simonandgarfunkel.com/track/old-friendsbookends/"}],"showid":65097},{"playid":3577587,"playtype":{"playtypeid":1,"name":"Media play"},"airdate":"2025-11-13T16:57:09Z","epoch_airdate":1763053029000,"epoch_airdate_v2":"/Date(1763053029000)/","archive_urls":{"32":null,"64":null,"128":null,"256":null},"artist":{"artistid":1322544083,"name":"Cat Stevens","islocal":false},"release":{"releaseid":1278216027,"name":"Tea for the Tillerman","largeimageuri":"https://dn710609.ca.archive.org/0/items/mbid-546f9ef0-a5c4-4e67-96c5-46a9d366b5a4/mbid-546f9ef0-a5c4-4e67-96c5-46a9d366b5a4-13571676148_thumb500.jpg","smallimageuri":"https://dn710609.ca.archive.org/0/items/mbid-546f9ef0-a5c4-4e67-96c5-46a9d366b5a4/mbid-546f9ef0-a5c4-4e67-96c5-46a9d366b5a4-13571676148_thumb250.jpg"},"releaseevent":{"releaseeventid":1148435197,"year":1970},"track":{"trackid":1638749923,"name":"Father and Son"},"label":{"labelid":1606472426,"name":"Island"},"comments":[{"commentid":957655691,"text":"For Gabriel in Florida\n\n\"I love the Music Heals show every year. In a world where we spend much of our time trying to distract ourselves from the things that move us, it’s a breath of fresh air.\n\nMy father was a miner and was killed by a collapsing mine shaft when I was 21. I hadn’t spoken to him since my mom divorced him and moved us across the country, just before I turned 16. As is often the case with 16 year old boys and their fathers, we didn’t see eye to eye on things. I was a rebellious skate punk who suddenly knew everything. He was set in his ways and had difficulty communicating without getting angry. When he died, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I thought I didn’t care at all, but I found out I cared a whole lot.\n\nNow, I’m a father of 2 teenage girls, and as you know, once you’re a parent, you understand the difficulty of parenting a lot better, and start to understand/forgive your own parents. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to talk to my dad and work through those things. One thing I’ve always appreciated from him is sharing his love of music with me. Some of my 1st memories are of me playing all of his old records when I was a kid (Donovan, CSNY, Beatles, etc.). One of our favorite shared artists was Cat Stevens. His song ‘Father & Son’ very much describes this contentious relationship between father and son, and for a long time I used it as a way to get to the emotional space to grieve for my father.\n\nIf you could play Father & Son, I would appreciate it.\n\n Thanks for all you guys do!\""}],"showid":65097},{"playid":3577586,"playtype":{"playtypeid":4,"name":"Air break"},"airdate":"2025-11-13T16:48:06Z","epoch_airdate":1763052486000,"epoch_airdate_v2":"/Date(1763052486000)/","archive_urls":{"32":null,"64":null,"128":null,"256":null},"artist":null,"release":null,"releaseevent":null,"track":null,"label":null,"comments":[],"showid":65097},{"playid":3577585,"playtype":{"playtypeid":1,"name":"Media play"},"airdate":"2025-11-13T16:43:49Z","epoch_airdate":1763052229000,"epoch_airdate_v2":"/Date(1763052229000)/","archive_urls":{"32":null,"64":null,"128":null,"256":null},"artist":{"artistid":802582187,"name":"James","islocal":false},"release":{"releaseid":66452417,"name":"Be Opened by the Wonderful: 40 Years Orchestrated","largeimageuri":"https://ia800906.us.archive.org/19/items/mbid-5847b280-03ba-45ff-ba56-53ab7e3d3730/mbid-5847b280-03ba-45ff-ba56-53ab7e3d3730-35897940858_thumb500.jpg","smallimageuri":"https://ia600906.us.archive.org/19/items/mbid-5847b280-03ba-45ff-ba56-53ab7e3d3730/mbid-5847b280-03ba-45ff-ba56-53ab7e3d3730-35897940858_thumb250.jpg"},"releaseevent":{"releaseeventid":554882658,"year":2023},"track":{"trackid":1404112476,"name":"We’re Gonna Miss You (orchestral version)"},"label":{"labelid":403024738,"name":"Virgin"},"comments":[{"commentid":131321447,"text":"For John's friend Michael...\n--\nWatch James perform this with an orchestra and gospel choir in the Birmingham Symphony Hall last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5V2PTPi5yGY"}],"showid":65097},{"playid":3577584,"playtype":{"playtypeid":1,"name":"Media play"},"airdate":"2025-11-13T16:39:04Z","epoch_airdate":1763051944000,"epoch_airdate_v2":"/Date(1763051944000)/","archive_urls":{"32":null,"64":null,"128":null,"256":null},"artist":{"artistid":465953106,"name":"Ultravox","islocal":false},"release":{"releaseid":1448358275,"name":"Vienna","largeimageuri":"https://dn721807.ca.archive.org/0/items/mbid-a48c4396-49ea-4128-aa8a-db32abf4c6e2/mbid-a48c4396-49ea-4128-aa8a-db32abf4c6e2-4254341282_thumb500.jpg","smallimageuri":"https://dn721807.ca.archive.org/0/items/mbid-a48c4396-49ea-4128-aa8a-db32abf4c6e2/mbid-a48c4396-49ea-4128-aa8a-db32abf4c6e2-4254341282_thumb250.jpg"},"releaseevent":{"releaseeventid":1506133058,"year":1980},"track":{"trackid":105714991,"name":"Vienna"},"label":{"labelid":1610236585,"name":"Chrysalis"},"comments":[{"commentid":1563789935,"text":"For Kristy & Michael in Olympia\n\nMichael Hukin was not only a Morning Show Faithful, he drank the caffeinated kool-aid from the origins. In early August, we attended the Death Cab for Cutie concert at Climate Pledge Arena. Two days later, Anne was struck by a car while crossing the street, suffering severe brain trauma.\n\nTwo days after the accident, while at her side in the hospital, I wrote a blog post referencing Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cutie. It was the first song my daughter requested by name as a 2 year old, except she called it “So Much Closer”. In the hospital, I remarked that the line “I need you so much closer” really hit hard. Anne was in a coma from which she would never emerge. She died 10 days later. \n\nIn addition to being a vibrant and loving wife and wonderful mother to our 16 year old daughter Kate, Anne was an incredible educator at Seattle schools, first as a middle school language arts teacher, and then for the past 15 years as the teacher librarian at Bryant Elementary in Northeast Seattle. To say she had impact is an understatement. She instilled a love of reading in hundreds and hundreds of kids, usually with a healthy dose of humor and pizazz. Well over 400 people attended her Celebration of Life at Bryant Elementary in October, including the mayor of Seattle who read a proclamation honoring her. Her sense of humor and giving nature were recurring themes.\n\nI will love Anne always and miss her every single day.
