She was only 58, full of life, but cancer is a motherf---. On my drive there I listened to the morning show, and John was playing the Grateful Dead, which I was going to request for Edie. We connected over our love for this station, and for how much Edie LOVED music. Edie's sister in law showed me a video of Edie, on hospice, weeks before her passing, singing Chaka Kahn in her hospital bed, using a giant sunflower as a microphone. Kitkat spent the past seven years keeping an eye out on 16th in Valencia in the mission. They lived at Rhonda‘s bodega, keeping the mice population low and community spirits up. Anyone that ever passed through would notice Kitcat and instantly smile, especially if he wanted some pets. He was an overwhelmingly loved staple of the community in more ways that words can describe . We lost KitKat to a Waymo that struck him and our community's been left with a void that will take years to heal. It’s been a very special thing, however, to to watch our community come together in these times of grief and loss, stopping by the bodega to wish the owners peace and love. Our district's supervisor is calling for a new measure that would lead to community votes in our city to decide on whether or not these autonomous vehicles are welcomed or not. In this time, we’ve been reminded that our neighbors, human or animal; all belong here. We’re wishing KitKat a good rest up in bodega cat heaven."}],"showid":65099},{"playid":3577683,"playtype":{"playtypeid":4,"name":"Air break"},"airdate":"2025-11-13T21:35:00Z","epoch_airdate":1763069700000,"epoch_airdate_v2":"/Date(1763069700000)/","archive_urls":{"32":null,"64":null,"128":null,"256":null},"artist":null,"release":null,"releaseevent":null,"track":null,"label":null,"comments":[],"showid":65099},{"playid":3577682,"playtype":{"playtypeid":1,"name":"Media play"},"airdate":"2025-11-13T21:30:00Z","epoch_airdate":1763069400000,"epoch_airdate_v2":"/Date(1763069400000)/","archive_urls":{"32":null,"64":null,"128":null,"256":null},"artist":{"artistid":413256481,"name":"Cass McCombs","islocal":false},"release":{"releaseid":1022496490,"name":"Interior Live Oak","largeimageuri":null,"smallimageuri":null},"releaseevent":{"releaseeventid":345151539,"year":2025},"track":{"trackid":1931543218,"name":"Peace"},"label":{"labelid":1379847399,"name":"Domino"},"comments":[{"commentid":327255626,"text":"A request from Jill in Everett, WA:\nMusic played a huge part in a dear friendship. I \"met\" Nico when I was in middle school through Metal Edge's Metalhead Directory (I was a hellion back then). She was a couple years older than I and we had not only common interests in music, but also writing, reading, movies, you name it, and became pen pals and even occasionally talked on the phone. Our friendship lasted through into adulthood, through good and bad relationships, marriages, kids, divorces, different email addresses, and various kinds of social media. In the nearly 40 years of friendship, we never got to meet in person as we lived on opposite sides of the country. We'd always wanted to meet in New Orleans at a Vampire's Ball, but we never were able.\nIn late September of this year, after an extended hospitalization, Nico passed away, survived by her husband and cats.\nThe day after her passing, after the initial shock wore off, I wanted to request a song on the Morning Show in her memory, but I couldn't think of one. Then John played Cass McCombs' \"Peace.\" The lyrics about not knowing when you would see someone again hit me and I began to bawl. It was the perfect song in that moment. If you can, please play that in honor of my dear Sis. I wish her peace, wherever she is now."}],"showid":65099},{"playid":3577681,"playtype":{"playtypeid":1,"name":"Media play"},"airdate":"2025-11-13T21:26:31Z","epoch_airdate":1763069191000,"epoch_airdate_v2":"/Date(1763069191000)/","archive_urls":{"32":null,"64":null,"128":null,"256":null},"artist":{"artistid":768878099,"name":"First Aid Kit","islocal":false},"release":{"releaseid":1441103740,"name":"The Lion’s Roar","largeimageuri":"https://dn710306.ca.archive.org/0/items/mbid-98b67679-4159-4f55-b3b0-0e79324d9043/mbid-98b67679-4159-4f55-b3b0-0e79324d9043-3654082504_thumb500.jpg","smallimageuri":"https://dn710306.ca.archive.org/0/items/mbid-98b67679-4159-4f55-b3b0-0e79324d9043/mbid-98b67679-4159-4f55-b3b0-0e79324d9043-3654082504_thumb250.jpg"},"releaseevent":{"releaseeventid":1219503272,"year":2012},"track":{"trackid":1339823079,"name":"King of the World"},"label":{"labelid":549419316,"name":"Wichita, [PIAS] Entertainment Group"},"comments":[{"commentid":685885835,"text":"Jess in Chicago made this request: \nTwo years ago now, my good friend and former roommate, Carly, passed away. I’ll never know what was going through her head the night she left this world and as hard as it is to accept that, I try to hold on to the good memories. Carly and I loved First Aid Kit. I will always be thinking of her singing this song late at night as we walked along the Sound. I’ve lost a lot of people to suicide, alcohol, drugs, and their related impacts, and I try my best to remember them not in their pain but through the music we loved and cherished together.
