"text": "Kris Kristofferson, groundbreaking country music singer-songwriter and a Hollywood film and TV star, died Saturday at home in Maui, Hawaii. No cause of death was given, but he was described as passing away peacefully while surrounded by family. He was 88.\n\nKristofferson is the debut album by the singer-songwriter Kris Kristofferson. It was produced by Fred Foster and released in June 1970 by Monument Records. After working a series of temporary jobs, Kristofferson became a helicopter pilot for oil companies in the Gulf of Mexico.\n\nWhile he worked, he wrote songs and pitched them to singers around Music Row in Nashville, Tennessee during his free time. Kristofferson's songs were recorded by country singers Roy Drusky, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Roger Miller and later he persuaded Johnny Cash to try his material. He was 88.\n\nThe Highwaymen were a supergroup featuring Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson.\n\nSpeaking of Johnny Cash... Kristofferson got a job sweeping floors at Columbia Recording Studios in Nashville, where he met June Carter and asked her to give Johnny Cash a tape of his. She did, but Cash put it on a large pile with others. \n\nKristofferson also worked as a commercial helicopter pilot for south Louisiana firm Petroleum Helicopters International (PHI), based in Lafayette, Louisiana. \n\nWeeks after giving Carter his tapes, Kristofferson landed a helicopter in Cash’s front yard, gaining his full attention. A story about Kristofferson having a beer in one hand and some songs in the other upon arrival was reputed, but has been disproven, with Kristofferson saying, \"It was still kind of an invasion of privacy that I wouldn’t recommend. To be honest, I don’t think he was there. John had a pretty creative memory.\"\n\nBut upon hearing “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down,\" Cash decided to record it, and in 1970 Kristofferson won Songwriter of the Year for the song at the Country Music Association Awards. https://tinyurl.com/yc7ssuts"

"text": "Last August, Seattle-based Craig Klein, who records music under the name Ohr and formerly fronted The Race, was deep into the recording of his new album, Afterglow, when his father got sick and died unexpectedly. It all happened in the span of a month, and Klein found himself reeling. “It rocked my world,” the songwriter recalls. “All I could really do to keep from losing it was to just work on music.”\n\nIn a haze of anxiety and grief, Klein returned to his music and found that the record’s themes resonated eerily well with his new reality. "text": "Written by Kevin Shields and Bilinda Butcher, both vocalists and guitarists for My Bloody Valentine, this is the album opener and second single from Loveless. \n\nThe track is known for what Shields calls the \"glide guitar\" technique, which he explained in a 1992 Guitar World interview as \"just two amps facing each other, with tremolo. And the tremolo on each amp is set to a different rate. There's a mic between the two amps. I did a couple of overdubs of that, then I reversed it and played it backwards into a sampler. I put them on top of each other so they kind of merged in.\"\n\nLoveless was the band's second studio album and has gone down in music history as not only being their masterpiece, but also being the record that nearly bankrupted Creation Records. Over the course of three years, Shields went through dozens of engineers and set up shop in 19 different studios in an attempt to craft a perfect album.\n\nLabel owner Alan McGee recalled to Spin in 1999: \"I could see my label slipping away.
